I am proud to be a married actress: Kareena Kapoor
After being part of several Rs100-crore films including B-Town’s biggest hit 3 Idiots, one would expect Kareena Kapoor to be blasé about her upcoming films.
But surprisingly the actor is as excited and eager to know the response for Talaash, as she was probably for her first film. “I want people to call and message me what they think. It’s a first-of-its-kind film and one of the most special roles in my career.
I can’t wait for it to release,” gushes Kareena. It certainly is her first release after marriage to actor Saif Ali Khan. Does that add to the anxiety? “Not at all, everyone else seems to be going on about the fact that we are married. But in my mind, it’s all about celebrating being in love with and committed to Saif,” smiles Bebo.
Any chances of seeing them together on the screen anytime soon? “No, I am leaving Saif to work with all his lovely leading ladies apart from me. He sees too much of me at home,” she beams.
Will the ‘married’ tag change the kind of roles that come her way? Because recently, Sanjay Leela Bhansali reportedly dropped Kareena from Ram Leela and buzz was that he couldn’t see a married actress playing the desi Juliet. “Ram Leela didn’t work out only because of monetary and date issues.
My professional life has nothing to do with personal life. I have always been open about my relationships and am proud to be a married actor. If people can’t accept it, then don’t talk about progression,” she says vociferously.
Kareena, who considers working with the Khan trio — Salman, Shah Rukh and Aamir — simultaneously as her biggest achievement, feels 3 Idiots is her most iconic film. “An actor has to work with Aamir, otherwise her career is not complete, and I am grateful that he cast me in Talaash too,” says Kareena unabashedly.
Bebo, who plays a bar girl in the film, has played a prostitute earlier in Chameli, but insists that the two roles are completely different. She says, “It’s not one of those in-your-face roles. Rosy (her name in the film) is an emotional and sensitive character. She’s a sunshine girl yet very deep and restrained. It was important to get it right.”
Kareena is also looking forward to shooting Prakash Jha’s Satyagraha, which will see her playing a fiery journalist. What excites her the most is that her look is ‘unlike the typical Jha heroine, who wears kurtas and khadi salwars,’. Bebo will be sporting a grungy look with jeans, leather jackets and boots.
“I’m trying to complete the rainbow of my career which started with Mani Ratnam (Yuva), Vishal Bhardwaj (Omkara), Raj Kumar Hirani (3 Idiots), Karan Johar (Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham), Madhur Bhandarkar (Heroine), Rohit Shetty (Golmaal 3) by working with directors I have never worked with before,” says the actor.
Talaash sees her being directed by a woman.
“A director’s a director. Reema (Kagti) looks like she is very strong and comes across like a tyrant. But she is extremely sensitive, warm and concerned about her actors’ comfort levels,” says Kareena, who plans to strike a balance between commercial and a little hatke films.
