Box office: ‘Rush’ flops, ‘Chakravyuh’ struggles, ‘Ajab Gazabb Love’ flunks

A lull pervaded at box office last weekend, affecting the collections of the new releases Rush,Ajab Gazabb Love and Chakravyuh. None of the three set the cash registers ringing.

An Emraan Hashmi film is always seen as a safe bet by trade pandits, but his latest release Rush, co-starring Neha Dhupia and Sagarika Ghatge, turned out to be an exception, notching dismally low collections in the first weekend. The film reportedly collected Rs. 2.10 crore nett in its first three days. The figure is not a patch on the collections that Hashmi’s films normally rake in.

The Chakravyuh team may already be celebrating the film’s success, but the box office figures tell a different story. The film, released on Dusshera, made approx. Rs. 12.25 crore nett in its five-day weekend, which though not poor isn’t a good collection either. The film did pick up after a slow start, but will have to keep the momentum throughout this week.

Ajab Gazabb Love, starring Jackky Bhagnani and Nidhi Subbaiah, didn’t score up to the mark and collected Rs. 4.25 crore nett in the opening weekend.

Meanwhile, Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year, introducing Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt, is cruising along smoothly and added another Rs. 10 crore to its kitty in the second weekend. The film’s ten-day aggregate now stands at Rs. 58 crore approx.

The coming Friday would see the release of Luv Shuv Tey Chiken Khurana and 1920 – Evil Returns.
